Why don't you try to use an example sketch? It should work without problems.

Are you using the AVR library in your code? I'm asking this because there are several libraries that have been written for Aduino architecture which is AVR, and unfortunately they won't work with Edison since the architecture is different (x86). 

And did you check the libraries directory? Are there the missing libraries?
